True Spooky Story — A Mysterious Message

03/11/2025

I've always been fascinated by human connections — those invisible links we can't define or explain. The story that follows is true. Whether it was pure coincidence or something spooky, I'll let you decide.

A few years ago, I was heading to the city with my toddlers. My husband and I were deciding whether to meet at his workplace or somewhere else. Eventually, I thought it would be easier to go to his office, so I sent him a quick message:

"Maybe it's better if you stay there."

Only… the message didn't go to my husband. It went to a friend of mine.

In my life, I've sent tens of thousands of messages, and only a few have ever gone to the wrong person. But this one did.

The friend who received it was someone I had met years earlier at a support camp for families who had lost a baby. We had both lost a child during childbirth. Now she was expecting again and happened to be at the hospital for a routine pregnancy check-up.

When she came out of the hospital, she saw my message:

"Maybe it's better if you stay there."

Of course, she realized it must have been a mistake, but still…

Everything in her check-up had been fine. Her baby was healthy. There was no reason to stay. On the way home, she decided to stop by a shopping mall. There, she suddenly began to bleed so heavily that she had to be rushed back to the hospital by ambulance.

I've often thought about that message. What kind of coincidence was it — or was it one at all? Are there unseen connections between people? Between the living and what we call inanimate matter? Connections we simply don't yet understand? This question is one of the underlying themes in my sci-fi fantasy novel Discovery: Prelude to a New Era.

And what happened to my friend?

Months later, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
